An
Autobiography in Stitches
Painted opaque and sheer fabrics;
commercial fabrics; photo transfers; Pigma pen and watercolor; hand
and machine appliqué, piecing and embroidery. An airline route
map was the inspiration for this piece. My husband is retired Air
Force, my two sons are active duty Air Force, and my daughter married
a "civilian" who is in the international moving business.
All of us have moved countless times, so this represents only a moment
in time when we all lived in the United States. The children all still
move constantly. However, since we are never moving again, the
blueprint fabric represents our designing the plans for our permanent
home in Monument. The home has two libraries to hold all our books.
Book subjects reveal our interests, and computers rule our lives as my
husband not only still flies, but is an aviation writer as well. The
airplanes are obvious, the mottoes are my husband's, and the
twenty-dollar bill is a family joke! |

Fuschias
Painted
cottons, silks, sheers and metallic fabrics; hand and machine
embroidery. I am challenged by the countless ways a single
photograph can be translated to fabric and threads. I also like
to expand on traditional techniques; the shadow work ground
fabric is spatter-printed to provide an illusion of foliage in
the background. |

New Mexico Series Trees
Painted,
batiked and metallic fabrics, fused; Pigma pens; hand
embroidery. I never fail to be fascinated by the rich,
warm colors of New Mexico's landscape. |

Vail
Hand
painted silk hand embroidery with silk threads. Colorado's
intense blue sky and its majestic mountains are a constant joy.
This is an interpretation of a photograph I took on a visit to
Vail, Colorado. |
