Michele Roberts is a former bank vice-president with a B.A. from Rice University and an M.B.A. in Finance. She specializes in historical research, techniques, stumpwork, and goldwork. Embroidering since early childhood, she does ecclesiastical commissions and continues to study in Europe.
Michele is an EGA Certified Graduate Teacher, a juried member of EGA’s Fiber Forum, and a Senior Master Teacher in the American Needlepoint Guild (ANG), for which she received the honorary Chottie Alderson and Massachusetts Scholarships for her work. She earned the level of Distinction when she completed her Royal School of Needlework Certification in embroidery techniques. She completed her Cities and Guilds Certificate in Stumpwork at the Embroiderers’ Guild at Hampton Court Palace.
A Life Friend of the Royal School of Needlework, she has taught at many national seminars, including ANG, EGA, NAN, Callaway Gardens, and the NAGA Liturgical Arts Seminars. She is the author of correspondence courses for the ANG (canvaswork and goldwork) and the EGA (goldwork), as well as several CyberWorkshops and Workshop by Mail for ANG. Her work has been featured in NeedlePointers (covers of November 2008 and 2003 issues, gold bullion Stumpwork, Judaica, and other topics), Needlepoint Now (Judaica), NeedleArts (designers) and EGA’s Margaret Parshall Gallery. Her recent books are Christian Ornaments Volumes I, II, and III; 105 Patchwork Patterns Charted for Needlepoint; and Broad Stripes and Bright Stars - a Star Spangled Banner with 366 Needlepoint Stitches. Recent awards include the Inaugural Betsy Robb prize for silk and metal embroidery and First Prize at the National Academy of Needlearts (NAN) Assembly, First Place at Woodlawn Plantation, Best of Show at EGA South Central Region, High Commendation at the Embroiderers’ Guild of the UK invitational exhibit, and prizes at Callaway Gardens. Guild Service includes positions with local, regional, and national ANG and EGA guilds. She is the immediate past president of Lone Star ANG Houston chapter. Her current ANG CyberWorkshop is the Exodus Breastplate, and the next one is Quartette of Fabergé Eggs.
In March of 2010 Michele will be receiving the National Academy of Needlearts Lifetime Achievement Award. |
