Judges' Certification

The National Academy of Needlearts offers certification for those interested in developing skills as a professional judge, juror, or critic of the needlearts. This program takes from one to two years to complete and begins with the candidate attending the Judges' Certification Workshop held prior to the Annual Assembly for Embroiderers

Judges' Certification candidates are required to review a variety of books relating to the needlearts, participate in judging on a trial basis in their home communities, and to submit written documentation of their work. Candidates are monitored throughout the certification process. At the completion of study, a written examination is taken and a final interview takes place with the Judges' Certification Committee.

Judges' Certification, which includes Master Judge and Exhibit Administrator's Associate levels, is open to any candidate who meets one of the following requirements:

  • Level II Teachers' Certification from NAN
  • Teacher Certification from another recognized needlearts organization
  • Degree in fine arts
  • Comparable qualifications and needlework expertise
