MOTHERHOOD - Continuum by Madlain Yunkers

I have been stylizing the human body – as well as nature – and its inherent qualities as I see them for many years….long before I became acquainted with Modigliani, Picasso, Dali, etc. This approach allows the viewer a wide range to interpret what he/she is viewing. As for myself, it allows me a great deal of freedom to express feelings, emotions, ideas and concepts… Storytelling, be it in dance, literature, religion, philosophy or music.

In the case of MOTHERHOOD, it encompasses the continuum of motherhood – one generation engenders the next, and the next, and the next….in the past and in the future. Each mother loves her children, and her childrens’ children…………but, it all emanates from one single cell.

So, here is the ovum giving forth a mother, who cradles her daughter, who, in turn, cradles her daughter, all while the next generation is awaited (see the mother’s belly button). I enjoyed stitching this piece very much, especially its simplicity of line, and thank Ann Harris for first having suggested I do “something” with the original concept of “Mother”.
