Lovely Lorelei by Gail Sirna

I am a collector of mermaids, and even have a whole Christmas tree of mermaids. Lovely Lorelei was a painted canvas that caught my eye in a shop somewhere on one of our coasts. Now she hangs proudly on my mermaid tree.

The beautiful siren with blond flowing hair holds in her hand a snail shell. Other shells litter the beach around her, and the sun rises creating a scallop shell on the morning sky. Lorelei is surrounded by shells and other creatures of the sea. Some are worked in appropriate needlework stitches; others are the real thing, lovingly collected on beaches and in seaside shops. Her hair is woven with pearls, the jewels of the sea, and more tiny pearls stud the background stitching.

This was an enjoyable painted design to interpret.
