Callaway Carpet by Anita G. McIntyre

This piece is a result of last year’s class of Jan Beany and Jean Littlejohn at the Callaway Gardens Needlework School. We were studying patterns and shapes. The instruction was to make a make a “magic carpet” using the shapes we had been studying.

Since I live three houses from the lake, I am influenced by water and its many patterns and colors. The black felt cloth is needle felted using an embellishment machine. The blue-green back ground is silk paper made from silk roving which I made at a class by Pam Godderis here at NAN. Waves are depicted by pieces of painted Tyvec, which I made in beve handwerger’s class at NAN, painted and stamped felt, and foil covered felt. The fish is painted and stitched felt.

I hope my magic carpet carries you in a soaring ride over the waves.
