Bouquet from the Heart of Japan by Solveig Walstrom

This piece is a Phase I piece from the Japanese Embroidery Center. I took this class at the Heartland Region Seminar in Des Moines, IA in 1993 when it was taught by Master Tamura. For me, this piece is dedicated to the memory of my mother and mother-in-law who both were instrumental in teaching me to embroider and who both passed away in 1993. The techniques used include weft foundation layer, vertical single layer, diagonal single layer, lattice holding, flax-leaf effect, blister effect, and round knots. Threads include Japanese flat silk and gold metallic.
