Bluebell Woods by Carol Sylvester
Every time I look at “Bluebell Woods”, I am reminded of my father. He was passionate about the outdoors, and loved to spend time walking behind the bluffland behind our family’s home in southern Minnesota. While the scene is not a true re-creation of the southern Minnesota deciduous forests, it is close enough for me.
“Bluebell Woods” is a kit from Rowandean, a British company. One of the things I love about these kits is that they allow for a lot of flexibility by the stitcher. If you don’t like one kind of thread in one spot, use another. If one stitch is hard, find something more appropriate. These kits really encourage creativity. I also love the interesting techniques used for the dimensional portions of the picture. Piece of nylons stuffed with thread for the rocks, heavily padded tree trunks and branches. Because the stitching moves out of the picture and covers part of the matting, I really feel as those it pulls me in and lets me become part of its scene.
