Waterlilies by Jennifer Riefenberg

Waterlilies seem to be one of the timeless subjects that have engaged artists throughout time – and continue to engage the viewer.  The tranquil water and those blossoms rising from the blue-green liquid capture our attention with their overt displays of beauty.  My inspiration for this piece came from many sources over time, but my choice of color for the flowers came from one of my photographic outings to the Denver Botanic Gardens, where the exquisite purple and yellow flower just intrigued me.  Usually it seems that the pinks and white and yellow flowers dominate what we all see, and while certainly deserving and lovely, this complementary combination of color became the one that I wanted to re-create in silk.  Thus, bloomed my waterlilies.
