Pretty Petal Hat by Toni Gerdes

I created the Pretty Petal Pin first, as a class to teach. The pin was inspired by some ancient kimono cloth pins that I have. I wanted to make a fun 3-D piece of wearable needlearts. The whimsical center to the flower is done in a ruching-coiling combination technique with Colonial knots added for interest.

There are many ways to wear this pin, on your lapel, on a tote or purse, and now on this fun knitted, felted black hat. The challenge from NAN for a hat piece inspired me to combine techniques of knitting and needlepoint. I hope you enjoy it.
