Mystique by Joetta Melton

Jean Hilton's evocative design “Mystique” (photo attached) was the subject of a class project taught by Maryann Juergensen in 2008. Although Jean's original teals and turquoises are lovely, I chose to alter that color grouping to denim and dark blues, while keeping all the fibers and the remaining colors as she designed the piece. Jean's design of interlocking squares and swirling nebulae was fascinating to me, and I found myself taking great joy in simply studying the interplay of shapes and colors as the piece developed.
