Lily Pond by Joyce Feucht

This original piece, being the top of a basket, gives a limited space for the beauties found on a lily pond in the spring. It does, however, contain the basics: a water lily bud, a lily bud opening, a lily in full bloom, pond weeds, a hovering dragon fly and the ever present mosquitoes. It was stitched on dyed fabric to depict the sky and cloud reflections on the water.

This stumpwork was done using cotton and silk floss on soft brass wires. Metallic threads were used on the dragon fly wings and for the flying insects. Beads were also used for his body. Stitches included: soft shading with long and short stitches, whipped stem, fly, overcast, straight and chain stitches.
