And Baby Makes Three by Joyce Feucht

This original needlework “painting” depicts a family of American Tree Sparrows: a proud father, a doting mother and their bright, precocious baby. The inspiration for it was my love of nature, especially for our feathered friends such as these, whom we feed and shelter during the winter months. The pussy willows being harbingers of spring show the time of the year this scene takes place.

The materials selected were silk and cotton floss and to simulate “painting” with a needle, soft shading with long and short stitches was employed. The most difficult aspect of this piece was making the wings of the mother true to reality and putting the glint their eyes.
