Maxine's Peacock by Rachel Watkins

When I first met Maxine Brandt she was in her late 80’s and her Japanese Embroidery inspired me to continue in my endeavours.

At one of the exhibits I attended, Maxine had a piece on display which consisted of a Peacock on a scroll. I never forgot this piece and several years later I mentioned it to my teacher, Shay Pendray. I was thrilled to learn that Shay had a photograph of Maxine’s work. I took the photograph home and using it as inspiration; I designed my own Peacock on a Scroll. It is my understanding that Maxine’s design originally came from Kurenai-Kai in Japan.
