Lake Michigan Sunset by Anita McIntyre

By painting the 18 count needlepoint canvas with the sheer material on the top, the two pieces of material will have identical images. I then separated them and stitched them individually. The background is stitched in silk on the canvas. The foreground was stitched with silk on the sheer material, and then the two were mounted together. This causes the piece to have a depth not possible with one material.

My summer cottage on Lake Michigan faces west. We get many beautiful sunsets. This is the view from our deck. My dog is running along the beach. The woods come almost to the beach. We are in the country. This piece captures the peace and tranquility I feel when I am there.
