Journey's Rest by Gina Maria Kleinmartin

Each autumn, Monarch butterflies migrate from North America to South America, a 3000 mile journey. Journey’s Rest is based on a brief stop made by the one Monarch that brightened a crisp late-September day in the Adirondack Mountains in New York. The Monarch had paused on the stalk of ironweed, framed by ferns on the forest floor. It was a brief pause before winter.

As a stumpwork piece, it has wired elements and was stitched with silks on a cotton background.
