Exploring "Fun Stuff" by Evelyn Chingren
Style is a personal jouney that is never complete. The physical sensation of touch guides the journey, opening the creative process and encouraging exploration. Each project is a new beginning as the personal journey of touch creates new sensations. As every fiber flows over the fingers, new sensations allow the formation of patterns, texture, and form. The physical sensation of touch allows the blind to see, the deaf to hear, the child to wonder and the artist to explore. No project ever meanders in the same direction, but rather each project ever expands the style journey.
Exploring “Fun Stuff” is the result of Ann Caswell’s mixed media class “Fun Stuff” from the 2007 Assembly. The focus of the class “incorporated studies in thread and stitch manipulation, wire and copper embellishment, and beading methods” and “how to integrate the elements created in class to form a cohesive design”. Though the embellishing elements and focal point were created as a result of techniques learned in the class, this is an original design. The stitches used, the placement of the copper art elements, and the selection of the threads used is the vision of the submitting artist. The threads were part of the kit provided by the instructor though all the threads provided were not selected for this design.
