Chinese Lady with Cats by Donna Halpin

I’m always intimidated by painted canvases which have been carefully shaded by the artist. This canvas by Theresa Lee (LEE DESIGNS) was no different. Having received it as a gift, I knew I didn’t want to allow it to languish in a closet and never be stitched. Shadow stitching to display the beauty of the Chinese lady and her gown, and to provide an interesting background seemed the only answer. Stitched primarily with a single strand of silk, and employing the bamboo stitch for the background and basketweave for the gown, with other stitches for variety, moved the piece from a wonderful canvas to a completed piece.
