Prairie Grass at Sunset by Walstrom Solveig

This piece was inspired by a photograph of prairie grasses in Story County Iowa on the March/April 1999 cover of "The Iowan" magazine. It was developed in a class by Lynn Payette called "Sunsets and Silhouettes". The techniques used included bonding layers of sheers and gold lamé to the background fabric to create the sunset. This was then covered with peach-colored netting, and stitching. Threads include black pearl cotton and floss, Kreinik metallics and Sulky metallic threads. Stitches used included detached buttonhole, double and outline or stem stitch.
