Lighthouse Moon by Laura Smith

A scene from a dreamscape, "Lighthouse Moon" incorporates a silken moon and organza clouds appliquéd to an original painted canvas. The mountains were defined with tulle. Sky and mountains were overlaid with organza. The lighthouse was stitched in long and short stitch with Splendor silk. The mid-ground shore was stitched with Watercolours. The evergreen trees are done in a textured random stitch with floss.

The barn and foreground "tundra" are appliqués. The "tundra" was machine stitched with a loose bobbin to capture the right texture. French knots were added by hand. The ocean is laid floss and Japanese flat silk. To bring the ocean to life, silver reflections were added using fil d'argent. Viewed through a video camera, these thin lines move like waves approaching the shore!
