Gilded Morning Glory by Judy Kotick

"Gilded Morning Glory" was designed and taught by Betty Chen Louis. The piece was stitched on congress cloth using Soie d'Alger, Silk 'N' Colors, Lacquered Jewels and Kreinik Cord. I think soft shading brings out the beauty of any flower, in this case the morning glory. I enjoyed creating a difference between the main petals and the base of the flower. On the main petals we used an encroaching satin stitch inserting the needle at a very oblique angle while the base of the flower is done in split filling and looks very textured because the needle is inserted straight up and down. I've never done much blackwork, so the five different patterns were a learning experience for me and were particularly fun since we were shading with the lacquered jewels.
