Anam Cara-Soul Mates [Celtic] by Beverly Grace
I was in Scotland many days before attending a Sealyham Terrier dog show in Wales. The feeling of the Highlands left an everlasting impression so I decided to use the inspirations to create this piece.
My goal was to portray a moment in time, contemporary with ancient, thus the picnic table and rugged landscape using the Chinese suzhou technique for the granite rocks. Many sketches and research continued during the process ending with the choice of plaids, Dress MacDonald for the gentleman, and Napier for the lady. Both plaids reflect the Scottish heritage of my husband's and my families.
The technique for using a mixed media was a new approach for me. "T'was" quite challenging sizing the canvas, enhancing the painting with thread and yarn and knowing when to stop.
To date, this piece is part of my soul. I say much about my life, my husband Tom, my appreciation for the Scottish Highlands, and of course my signature, Sealyham Terrier.
