Winter Solstice by Anita McIntyre

This piece invokes the feel of the winter woods at the end of the day. The purples and pinks give the piece the softness of winter light. The snow is freshly fallen and it is still warm enough for the spring to be flowing.

This scene was created in a class taught by Lynn Payette. The background is pieces of sheer prom dress materials attached to the canvas with fusible web. The trees are different knitting yarns.

I made several changes from the original design. I added cellophane, which had been shrunk with an iron to the stream as well as many beads representing bubbling water. I added birch trees to the woods to make it more like Northern Michigan, and the small white trees in the far background to add to the feeling of depth.
