Stan Hywet Teapot by Judy Kotick

The “Stan Hywet Teapot” was designed and taught by Tony Minieri this fall for our Stan Hywet Needlework Guild. Stan Hywet is a Tudor Revival home in Akron, Ohio, built in 1925 with 65 rooms situated on 70 beautiful acres of gardens. The 165 Guild members belong to the foundation, meet within the house and provide volunteer help when needed. Tony got his inspiration for our Guild’s teapot from the library. As you walk into the room and turn around, the dark woodwork above the door echoes many of the lines of the design; the S and C curves, the Jessicas which are round wooden bolts, the inner circle center top and the rectangle center bottom. The background of light green silk looks just like the walls in the room, a light green damask wallpaper. As I volunteered during the Holidays at my station, the Library, I’d glance up and think about stitching our Stan Hywet Teapot.
