Solitude by Beve S. Handwerger

Woods/forests are peaceful, calming, rejuvenating; quiet. Places to gain perspective, to think. Inspired by painted Bond-a-web applied to paper, and, as paper comes from trees….the design was quite apropos.

My work usually develops spontaneously over an extended period of time in which to think it through, change it, experiment with it….in my mind. Fabric, materials, textures are often the motivation. Once defined I begin pulling materials, following the concept work out in my mind, knowing it may need changes, as the work itself takes over and dictates direction. The piece grows, much like watching a child grow. With an emotional theme, I will experiment with concepts, design and materials on paper….sketchbook. I need to work it through where it visually takes shape.
