Imari Fan by Debbie Stiehler

IMARI FAN – this is third in a series of fan pieces designed as a four-day class in canvas embroidery plus many other techniques. It is stitched on ivory congress cloth using silk, cotton, and metallic threads. After the piece is stitched, it is cut out and appliquéd to silk shantung fabric which has been quilted. Other embellishments include loom and peyote beading with Delica beads, and an Asian knot tied with gold and silver torsade. The inspiration for this design stemmed from research of antique porcelain Imari patterns. The color combination represents those used in these antique patterns.
