Trillium by Anita G. McIntyre

Last year at the NAN assembly I won a scholarship to "Anglicanum" a seminar presented by the Hotel Patee with Liz Elvin, principal of the Royal School or Needlework, and Alex and Julia Caprara, co-principals, Opus School of Textile Arts. In the section taught by Alex and Julia Caprara, one of the techniques demonstrated involved using a loosely woven material as the base for the embroidery. I believe the material may be called Scrim.

I enjoyed using this material since I could stitch with strips of fabric as well as traditional needle work fibers and threads. It was spring, after I returned home I went to Northern Michigan where the Trillium bloom in the forest. In some places the forest floor looks like it is covered in a carpet of pink and white flowers. In this piece, I have tried to catch the essence of this season in the woods.
