Pear Tree on Red by Christine Dabbs

The inspiration for this piece came from the tree pictured on the cover of Erica Wilson’s 1962 book Crewel Embroidery. Embroidered entirely with silk thread the padded tree trunk was first stitched directly onto the red silk fabric. The leaves and pears are stitched separately, incorporating wire, and then applied to the tree branches giving the dimensional effect.
