Magnificent Landscape by Anita G. McIntyre
The Magnificent Obsession chapter of ANG did a year long project involving favorite stitches used in landscapes. We were given a line drawing of a landscape which we could or could not transfer to canvas if we liked. As program director, I drew the line drawing. Each meeting a different member would discuss her favorite stitches to use for an element in the landscape. We had discussions of such things as water, sky, path and flower stitches. Gail Sirna, the underachiever, did a twenty page book on grass stitches. Thereafter we were each to stitch a landscape for a prize. Gail’s piece is also here. All the pieces were quite different.
In this piece, I was influenced by the setting sun on a visit to rural Ontario. It turned everything gold. I tried to get this effect by working a single strand of goldish-orange silk over each surface touched by the sun. I was also interested in achieving the luminescence in the water of the reflection of the sun.
