Independence Day by Toni Gerdes

This was fun patriotic piece to stitch. The only change I made was not to accent the piece with some jewels that were included with the chart. I used Rhodes stitches instead. The Hi-lights was hard to work with, but worth the effort for the wonderful "bursting light" effect it produced.

The ground material: 18 count Antique Blue Canvas.
Techniques and/or stitches used: Satin Stitches – straight and diagonal, Smyrna's, Fan Stitches, various Star Stitches, Long Stitches.
Threads used: Watercolors and Wildflowers by Caron, Hi-lights, Gold Rush 18, and Treasure Braid Petite by Rainbow Gallery, and DMC Pearle #5.
