Pas de Deux by Peg Laflam

This collage is one of a long line of collaged and machine stitched fish that I have completed. Fish are fascinating to me because of their many colors and the unique configurations of pattern upon their bodies. I find them a never ending source of pleasure and delight. Recently, in place of the trophy and fantasy fish format with which I began, I have tried to create fish with more lifelike movement and spirit. Although I don’t think trout really jump in pairs as these two are doing, I do think that the jumps they do make are as beautiful and as elegant as any leap one might see on a ballet stage.

The fabrics used are both commercial and hand painted. The machine stitching uses both cotton and rayon threads.
