August Pheasants by Anita McIntyre

My husband, the hunter, loves bird pictures. Therefore when I took a "paint your own canvas" class from Jane Hardy Hudson, I tried painting pheasants. After having seen Dorothy Johnson’s Arbor Way, I decided that I wanted to stitch trees. So the pheasants moved from the fields to the edge of the forest. I had so much fun with the stump in the foreground that it grew beyond belief. Therefore I decided to put the second pheasant on top of it.

I was in Northern Michigan at the time and did not have a picture of a pheasant to copy. I passed a taxidermist on my way into town. He was happy to provide me with several pictures of pheasants he had stuffed. Therefore I decided to "taxidermy" my own pheasant to put over the offending stump.
