Summer Series I  by Elizabeth Crow

Designing this series provided me with the opportunity to integrate my fondness for miniature scenes with my favorite memories as a child. I love working with unusual materials, like the hills in this farm scene which are the discarded end-pieces of raw hand-dyed silk torn and laid under open blanket stitches. The most challenging aspect of this piece was creating realistic postures out of bullion knots for each figure, hopefully lending a sense of action and humor for the viewer’s enjoyment.
