Ellie The Elephant by Judith DiCarlo

Ellie the Elephant is a painted canvas design of a Persian elephant that I stitched as a decoration for my grandson’s room. It was a fun project to do because of the many stitches as well as the different types of thread I could use for this colorful design.

This piece had a stitch guide and suggestions for the types of thread, but I enjoyed experimenting with stitches I found in some of my books and was able to change the threads to ones I wanted to use.

The fibers that I used were Flair, Floss, Fyre Werks, Matte, Metallics, Nordic Gold, Pebbly Perle, Perle Cotton, and Velour. The needlepoint stitches were the Brick Stitch, Cashmere Stitch, Diagonal Hungarian Diamond, Diagonal Mosaic, Envelope Stitch, French Knots, Gobelin, Knitting Stitch, Milanese, Needlepoint, Rhodes, Satin Stitch, and Scotch. The project was more time consuming than I thought it would be, but well worth the effort.
