David's Stocking by Evelyn Chingren

"David’s Stocking" is seventh in a series of family Christmas stockings that have a similar theme of geometric patterns worked with a large selection of fibers, stitches and techniques. Each stocking does reflect the artist’s view of the individual’s personality. David is a commercial real estate appraiser and my son-in-law. He is mathematical, inquisitive, great with people and very generous. To that end I chose combinations that would intrigue David. The base is 18-mesh blue canvas. With the use of approximately 20 fibers and beads and the same number of stitches or techniques they become too numerous to list in a short amount of space.

Style is a personal journey that is never complete. The physical sensation of touch guides the journey, opening the creative process and encouraging exploration. Each project is a new beginning as the personal journey of touch creates new sensations. As every fiber flows over the fingers, new sensations allow the formation of patterns, texture, and form. The physical sensation of touch allows the blind to see, the deaf to hear, the child to wonder and the artist to explore. No project ever meanders in the same direction, but rather each project ever expands the style journey.
