Suddenly Sequoia by Sharon Barrea

This piece developed from a class where we were to do our interpretation of trees. I chose to do mine as a view of a small section of huge trees.

This class S-T-R-E-T-C-H-E-D the imagination to the fullest!

The ground fabric is Congress Cloth (painted) with Wonder Under, Chiffon, painted velvet cut in strips to look like bark. The velvet strips were placed on burlap that had been dyed with the mixture of colors from the "dump" bucket. After placing the pieces (using Wonder Under) where I wanted them, I stitched the ridges of the bark and the hole in the tree. I then did limbs using several layers to give a realistic look.

I used a huge variety of thread from stash.
