Needlewoven Cat's Cradle by Sheila Ary
I like the technique of needleweaving, even though it is tedious to set up before you can begin work with your needle. It is a technique that by its nature imposes restrictions on the needleworker. Choosing to accept the limitations of the technique allows the creation of beautiful designs. This piece is worked in 100% cotton fabric (Valerie), using threads drawn from the edge of the fabric for the weaving. I find this an excellent technique for working in medical waiting rooms. It is absorbing enough to take most of the worker's attention, and grows quickly enough that you can see what you have accomplished in otherwise unusable time. Others waiting have been interested in something they had never seen before, and were puzzled about how it could be done. The patient, when he saw this finished product, described it as a "Cat's cradle gone to
Heaven." |
