southernv_3.jpg (16746 bytes)The Southern Sampler by Shannon Newson of Kansas City, Missouri

This colonial type Adam and Eve sampler was designed by Eileen Bennett. I stitched it on 36-count Edinborough linen. Stitches include: queen, double cross, pulled thread 4-sided, cross, long arm cross, Montenegrin cross, flat stitch, small rice, back, single cross eyelet squares, Irish stitch, small Algerian eye, and weaving stitch. It is framed under glass, as were the samplers of the women of our families who stitched before us.

Eileen’s keen wit comes through with this verse. I keep this sampler in a prominent place in my home.
