Trace the line design according to the directions included in the General Instructions.
Use
one strand of DMC 6-Strand Embroidery Thread #3031 to work the Outline Stitch as
charted at right
Work the Weaving Stitch by weaving over and under (you are actually doing a running stitch) with two (2) strands of DMC 6-Strand Embroidery Thread #3031. Weave from the top to the bottom of the tree (vertically), trying not to be too uniform with the stitches. When the branches turn to the left or to the right, turn the stitches in that direction (horizontally or diagonally).

LeavesLeaf stitches (4 varieties)
Stitch a two types of leaf stitches in four (4) combinations of DMC 6-Strand Embroidery Thread. Use two strands of DMC 6-Strand Embroidery Thread in the following combinations
Place these colors and the stitches randomly on the tree branches, balancing the use of the colors and the stitches.
The stitches used are Rococo Stitch and motifs of Straight Stitches, similar to a partial eyelet stitch.

The piece is then trimmed with a dark green silk ribbon (a softer ribbon and easier to attach as an outline trim). Use a single strand of DMC 6-Strand Embroidery Thread #3345 to stitch tiny stitches, tacking the ribbon in place over the oval outline.
OR... you can use one of the methods described in the Finishing Instructions to complete the edge of the Fall Surface Embroidery Tree.
