You may substitute another twisted silk or pearl cotton.
- Watercolours (Caron Collection) - Color # 027 (Lemon & Lime)
- #22 and #24 tapestry needles
- Light colored sewing thread
- Refer to Finishing Instructions for
materials needed for finishing the ornament.
If you change the colors of this ornament, select your Watercolours
first, then choose the solid color threads.
Trace the marquis shaped template onto
the canvas and mount the canvas on stretcher bars as explained in the General
Instructions.
- Baste centerlines both horizontally and vertically to find the
exact center (use the light colored sewing thread).
- Use 1 strand of Watercolours and a #22 needle to stitch a
Half-Rhodes Stitch in the exact center. Continue by working a
diagonal row of Half-Rhodes Stitch toward the upper left. Then
complete the row by working toward the lower right.

The photo below shows the row of Half-Rhodes Stitches
with the gold Mosaic Stitches below and the aqua Alternating Cashmere
Stitches above.

- Mosaic Stitch - lower half of ornament. First, use 1 strand of
Trebizond. Stitch four rows of Mosaic Stitch, stitching in diagonal
rows. Now, use 1 strand of Watercolours to stitch one row of Mosaic
Stitch. Repeat this sequence to complete the lower half of the
ornament. Refer to photo of finished ornament.

- Alternating Cashmere Stitch - upper half of ornament. (For ease in
working, turn the canvas upside down.) Use 3 strands of Splendor
along with 1 strand of #4 Kreinik Metallic Braid in your needle.
Stitch two rows of Alternating Cashmere Stitch, working in diagonal
rows. Now, use 1 strand of Watercolours to stitch one row of
Alternating Cashmere Stitch. Repeat this sequence to complete the
upper half of the ornament. Refer to photo of
finished ornament.

- Stitch two rows of continental stitch around the outer shape (see
General Instructions). Use Trebizond to outline the lower half
of the ornament and Splendor to outline the upper half of the
ornament.
- Finish the ornament according to the Finishing
Instructions.
